Our grading process
At Collectors League, grading is more than a number. It is a complete assessment of authenticity, condition, preservation and presentation. Every submission follows a structured, transparent process built for the realities of modern collecting, including counterfeits, altered items and reslabbed products.
Early-stage intake, identity analysis and record creation
The grading workflow begins with secure intake, followed by Ling’rPrint analysis, grading and conditioning reporting, then database entry and consolidation before the item moves into the remainder of the Collectors League process.
1. Intake
- Submission is received, logged and assigned into the workflow.
- Item type, declared details and service path are confirmed.
- Initial authentication and verification checks begin at intake.
- Items that fail authentication do not proceed to grading.
2. Ling’rPrint analysis
- The item undergoes Ling’rPrint identity analysis where applicable.
- Visual, structural and forensic characteristics are captured.
- Identity markers are assessed to help distinguish the exact object.
- Where relevant, matching continuity is supported against database records.
3. Grading & conditioning report
- Condition assessment is completed in the appropriate grading framework.
- Defects, strengths and preservation state are documented.
- A detailed grading and conditioning report is prepared.
- This stage captures the evidence base supporting the final result.
4. Database entry & consolidation
Once the item’s identity, condition and report data have been established, the record is entered and consolidated into the Collectors League system. This creates the structured internal foundation for final grade confirmation, encapsulation, registry linkage and ongoing record continuity.
Authentication & verification at intake
- Manufacturer and release legitimacy.
- Era-correct materials, printing and construction.
- Known counterfeit indicators.
- Tampering, resealing and alteration signs where applicable.
- Autographs, stamps, serials and provenance where applicable.
Category-specific grading and condition assessment
During grading and conditioning reporting, each item is assessed within the correct category framework using controlled grading environments and live inspection equipment.
Trading cards
- Surface condition including scratches, print defects and wear.
- Corners including rounding, compression and whitening.
- Edges including chipping, fraying and cut quality.
- Centering on front and back.
- Structural integrity.
Sealed products
- Seal integrity and consistency.
- Shrink wrap condition.
- Box or pack structure.
- Corner and edge wear.
- Compression, dents, warping and resealing signs.
Memorabilia
- Material condition and aging.
- Structural stability.
- Surface wear and defects.
- Print or signature quality.
- Authenticity markers and construction consistency.
Each category follows its own grading framework. Sealed products are never graded using card standards, and memorabilia is assessed independently from both.
Assisted analysis and defect identification
Advanced analytical tools are used to assist graders by highlighting defect signals and flagging areas requiring deeper review. Final grading decisions are always made by trained specialists using live inspection equipment.
How assisted analysis helps
- Highlighting micro-defects and surface inconsistencies.
- Identifying structural anomalies.
- Comparing items against authenticated reference data.
- Flagging anomalies for further specialist review.
Technology supports, specialists decide
Analytical tools strengthen consistency and documentation, but they do not replace human judgment. The final result remains specialist-led.
Final grade determination
Grades are determined by combining objective defect analysis, category-specific weighting, and overall preservation and presentation.
How final grades are balanced
- No single flaw unfairly dominates a grade.
- Exceptional items are properly recognised.
- Results remain consistent across categories.
Slab & encapsulation process
Collectors League is differentiated by how the item is sealed and preserved. The encapsulation process is designed for the realities of counterfeits, altered items and reslabbed products.
Textured Fusion Encapsulation Process
- Creates a secure, near-invisible bond.
- Reduces the risk of tampering and reslabbing.
- Minimises internal movement and vibration.
- Maintains clarity and structural stability over time.
Precision fit & protection
- Category-appropriate internal sizing.
- No unnecessary pressure on cards or items.
- Materials selected for clarity and durability.
- Designed for long-term storage and display.
Registry linkage, QR/NFC verification and ownership continuity
After database consolidation and encapsulation, every graded item is linked into the Collectors League system to support verification, live registry continuity and ownership record integrity.
Registry & reports
- Authoritative item verification.
- Detailed grading and assessment records.
- Category-specific grading breakdowns and defect observations.
- Supporting imagery and inspection references where applicable.
QR & NFC verification
Collectors League does not display visible physical serial numbers on slabs. Instead, QR and NFC technologies are incorporated directly into labels, requiring the item to be scanned for live verification.
- Reduces serial duplication and image-based fraud.
- Encourages live verification over static lookups.
- Confirms verification status in real time.
Ownership continuity
- Ownership status and transfer history where enabled.
- Trusted record continuity for high-value items.
- Transfers preserve the integrity of the grading record.
- Secure sharing with buyers, auction houses or insurers.
